This workshop is for teachers and TAs in all settings.

Makaton is a communication programme that helps support children with their speech, language and communication through signs and/or symbols. Many pre-schools and primary schools use Makaton to support children’s understanding and learning.

An estimated 1.9 million primary and secondary children are behind with their talking and understanding of words, according to a charity’s survey of teachers. One in five children now have speech and language challenges – the highest number ever recorded, according to the charity Speech and Language UK. The number of children estimated to be behind with talking and understanding words has increased from 1.7 million last year to at least 1.9 million this year.

The workshop is 2 hours and covers what Makaton is, how to use it and the many benefits of the use of Makaton within your role.

The resources and ideas for implementation are shared, with a segment specifically on using visual resources. It is a fun, relaxed and practical workshop and will leave having the confidence to begin using Makaton straight away in practice.

Participant booklet will be emailed prior to the training and a Certificates of attendance will be received on completion.
