New Teaching School Hubs Alliance Launched

The Five Counties Teaching School Hubs Alliance has officially launched, via a live online event.

The Alliance is a partnership of two Teaching School Hubs, Venturers Trust and Mangotsfield CofE Primary School, and their delivery partner, Cabot Learning Federation.

Serving more than 700 schools across Bristol, North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset and Somerset, the Alliance supports teachers and leaders with career-long development through the Early Career Framework, National Professional Qualifications, Initial Teacher Training/Appropriate Body and bespoke Continuous Professional Development.

After an introduction and welcome from the CEO of the Cabot Learning Federation, Steve Taylor, the virtual attendees heard from the Regional Schools Commissioner for South West England, Hannah Woodhouse.

Hannah summarised the recent changes to the Department for Education’s ministerial team and outlined the significant role teaching school hubs will play in addressing disadvantage in their region.

Among the data presented were figures confirming that disadvantaged pupils in the South West region make the least progress in England compared to their peers.

Hannah said: “Teaching school hubs will be based on excellence, with high quality leadership and teacher development. They will help to recruit, retain and develop the very best teachers in the South West.”

David Watson, the CEO of Venturers Trust, outlined the building blocks of the new TSH system, and set out the Five Counties’ visions and values of collaboration, partnership, education, excellence, and equity.

David said: “We want to collaborate, listen and work with you in partnership because education is the key.”
