We are delighted to announce that the CLF / Five Counties have been designated as the South West’s Centre of Expertise by the Bell Foundation, who are the leading experts in training and support around EAL.

Centres of Expertise are licensed and accredited by The Bell Foundation to run its Language for Results Programme to schools in their region. Language for Results is a not-for-profit programme of evidence informed EAL training and resources which aims to support schools to embed impactful and sustainable EAL provision and develop inclusive practices.

Through generating and applying evidence, The Bell Foundation aims to improve policy, practice and systems to enable children, adults and communities in the UK who use English as an Additional Language (EAL) to overcome disadvantage through language education.  It works with teachers at all stages of their professional journey following the golden thread of developing outstanding practitioners.  The Bell Foundation – Changing lives and overcoming exclusion through language education

This will mean that we are in a position to recruit a number of Bell Foundation Lead Practitioners  – BFLPs who will be trained and accredited to deliver high quality EAL support and training to their own and other schools across the Five Counties region.

We are looking for expressions of interest from individuals who would deliver training as a Bell Foundation Lead Practitioner on behalf of the Teaching School Hub.

You will be working with schools across the region as deployed by the Centre of Expertise at the Five Counties TSHA

Please see below for the role profile and training time required to become a BFLP for your information.

You will need to have your principal’s/headteacher’s endorsement when applications go live in after half term.

You will need to confirm:

  • You understand the remit of the role
  • You will need to complete 37 hours of self-study and online webinar training and be assessed on your delivery of The Bell Foundation materials – much of this can be done in a time to suit you.
  • Your school leader has agreed to release you to undertake Bell Foundation delivery of training at a cost of £250.  This initial cost can be recouped quickly as your school is paid for your time to deliver training for other schools

Support teachers and EAL learners in your region by becoming a Bell Foundation Licensed Practitioner (BFLP)

The Bell Foundation and The Five Counties Teaching School Hubs Alliance are working together to deliver Language for Resultsa not-for-profit training offer for school staff which aims to improve the attainment of EAL learners in your region.

We are recruiting a team of experienced teacher educators to be trained as Bell Foundation Licensed Practitioners and to deliver Language for Results in local schools. Language for Results is a whole school programme which provides training and interventions designed to equip school staff with practical skills and strategies for supporting EAL pupils. Training ranges from whole-school language awareness sessions, aimed at introducing practical strategies for everyday classroom practice, to guidance on how to assess proficiency in English using the Foundation’s award-winning EAL Assessment Framework for Schools.

Bell Foundation Licensed Practitioners will have the opportunity to:

  • develop skills and knowledge as EAL teacher educators through initial training and ongoing CPD
  • acquire enhanced content knowledge and key skills to better support EAL pupils and their teachers both in their own school and in others
  • become part of a collaborative network of Licensed Practitioners around the UK
  • help develop and shape sustainable and high quality EAL provision for schools in their region
  • access the full suite of Language for Results training materials to use when training school staff
  • earn income for their own school when deployed to run training or to support other schools

Initial Training

The ‘Becoming a Bell Foundation Licensed Practitioner’ course is a blended programme of approximately 37 hours. Participants can complete the online component in their own time, at their own pace, and without having to miss days of work. The face-to-face elements of the course will equip Licensed Practitioners to teach Language for Results courses to the high standard expected and will take a maximum of two days.

Candidates must meet a series of eligibility criteria (see below) in order to be nominated by their organisation and must carefully consider whether they can demonstrate that they meet the criteria before they agree to be nominated.

Requirements for Bell Foundation Licensed Practitioner Candidates

Education Qualifications
Essential B.Ed., PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification, although applications would be considered from suitably experienced or otherwise qualified practitioners
DesirableMasters in one or more of the following specialisms:

  • English as an Additional Language (EAL)
  • Bilingual Education
  • Teacher Education
  • Applied Linguistics
  • Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL)
  • Second Language Acquisition (SLA)
  • English Language Teaching (ELT)
Post-graduate diploma in EAL, English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ELT or equivalent
Experience 
Essential 
  • An EAL teaching background·
  • Teaching experience in UK primary and/or secondary state schools
  • Track record of excellence in teaching
  • Staff training experience in a school context
  • Current knowledge about education, EAL and the state education sector in the UK
  • Knowledge and experience of factors impacting on the quality of teacher training including through observing and assessing teaching and learning

In addition, to deliver Senior Leadership Courses and Train the Trainer Courses candidates will need to have experience in Senior Leadership posts, or working closely with Senior Leaders, and extensive training experience.
