In order to access the Ambition or Education Development Trust ECF programmes and the Five Counties Appropriate Body service, there are three steps schools need to undertake to register their Early Career Teachers, Induction Leads and Mentors.

Before you start, make sure you have your school’s Unique Reference Number (URN), as well as the names, Teacher Reference Numbers (TRNs) and personal details such as date of birth and the email addresses of any Early Career Teachers you are registering, along with their Mentor’s details and any Induction Leads that you are registering.

Register ECTs and mentors on the DfE portal

The induction lead should register ECTs and their mentors on the DfE portal. This initial step must be completed in order for funding to be allocated for your ECT. You need to choose a lead provider (Ambition Institute or Education Development Trust) and ensure you have linked together your ECTs and mentors. If your ECT is starting their ECT induction in the school year 2023-2024, they should be registered on the DfE portal as a 2023 starter. If they are starting at your school this year, but started their induction somewhere else in the 2022-2023 school year, they should be registered on the DfE portal as a 2022 starter.

Please note the DfE portal will only allow registrations for September for ECTs who will be in the 2023/2024 year from early July 2023.

Complete the Five Counties Form to link with the lead provider

Complete a short form for us. We will then liaise with your chosen lead provider (Ambition Institute or Education Development Trust) who will send an email to your ECTs, Mentors and Induction Leads to onboard and commence their programmes online.

Appropriate Body Registration

Registering your ECT with an appropriate body is a legal requirement and is separate to the ECT CPD programmes offered through Ambition or EDT. To do this, please register your ECTs and mentors with the online system ECT manager, choosing either Bristol, North Somerset and Somerset, or South Glos and BANEs, depending on where your school is. If you are using ECT manager for the first time and your school is not yet listed, just let us know by email and we can add your school to the system: [email protected]

If you are NOT choosing Five Counties as your AB, you will need to register with your chosen Appropriate Body, such as Bristol LA or South Glos (Integra).
