EAL – Bell Foundation: Using Comprehensible English – for primary school staff
- This 90 minute twilight session will be delivered online by a trained and experienced Bell Foundation Lead Practitioner (BFLP).
- We will raise awareness of what is and what is not comprehensible, accessible English Language for learners who use EAL, particularly those who are new to English or in the early acquisition stages.
- We consider what makes English difficult to understand and introduce a range of easy-to-use strategies for giving instructions and checking understanding which can be used both in and out of the classroom.
- The content is relevant and will develop understanding for all members of staff within a primary school setting, such as administrators, support staff, teachers and senior leadership teams.

The Bell Foundation are the UK’s leading body supporting the training and development of school staff in order to improve outcomes of pupils who use EAL. The Five Counties Teaching School Hubs Alliance have been designated as the South West’s Bell Foundation Centre of Expertise and have a number of trained Bell Foundation Lead Practitioners who are experts in their field. They are able to support schools and trusts to develop their provision for pupils who use EAL and to run online and face training through the Teaching School Hub.
