Schools’ engagement in Initial Teacher Training

Teaching School Hubs are charged with finding out about schools’ engagement in ITT, to gain a picture of placement capacity and sufficiency across the area and to support schools that wish to host trainee teachers are introduced to ITT providers serving the area. The ultimate aim is to maximise recruitment of trainees across the region and increase the pipeline of new teachers for our schools.

Please assist us by supplying some information about how your school works with trainee teachers by completing a short survey at this link:

If you have already completed this survey in December you do not need to complete it again.

For schools in partnership with ITT providers for 2024-25 there are some changes to be aware of, in particular to the expectations for mentoring and mentor training and funding for this. You can find a summary on our website here: https://fivecountiesalliance.co.uk/news/initial-teacher-training/

From 2025-26 the ITT and ECF frameworks are merging and the DfE suggest this will reduce mentor workload and cut down repetition from ITT to ECT; the new framework will also contain significantly more content on SEND and adaptive teaching and more subject specific focus.
